Peatlands Woman Reaching Their Hope

Sungai Bungur is a small village along the Bungur River, Kumpeh District, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. The villagers living on peat lands have proved that peat land is not unproductive. For generations they have cultivated and made their living from peat forest and land. This fact opposes the belief that the community cannot cultivate peat into being productive land. These have been used as excuses for the release of peat lands into large scale oil palm plantations and other timber industries. Directed by Wahyu Mulyono and edited by Rifky, this video was produce for Jaringan Masyarakat Gambut Riau
