Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation of Forest, REDD+ is a global scheme that gives positive incentive to the developing countries with willingness and ability to reduce the greenhouse emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. In addition to deforestation and forest degradation, REDD + also includes the role of conservation, sustainable forest management, and the increasing of the carbon stocks.
Aside from the interest to reduce emissions and greenhouse gasses as the factors of other climate change, REDD+ is also giving co-benefits in poverty reduction, sustainable economic growth and preservation of other eco-system services as the contribution for green economy. REDD+ provides an opportunity for Indonesia to enter the low carbon economic transition and at the same time to realize the volunteering commitment of Republic of Indonesia in reducing emissions by 26% and 40% with scenario Business as Usual (BAU) in 2020.
