The Customary Forest

The increasing number of the conflicts and dispossessions suffered by indigenous peoples over their customary forests led the Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago. The indigenous community of the Kenegerian of Kuntu (Riau) and the indigenous community of the Kasepuhan of Cisitu (Banten) petitioned a judicial review on several articles of the Law No. 41 Year 1999 concerning Forestry. The customary forests are thus than classified by the Constitutional Court as titled forests. They are no longer parts of state forests.
